Wolves Under Sail is a metal project by J.P. Anderson, an anarchist musician from Seattle, whose other projects are The Shizit / The Named (digital hardcore in the vein of Atari Teenage Riot), Rabbit Junk (digital hardcore / industrial rock) and Fighting Ice With Iron ("steamcore"). "Grave Before Slave" is an amazing debut, no worse than Sorgsvart's last album! It's viking folk metal, but I think tags like "pirate metal" are applicable too. Thanks to Miro for pointing me to this really good EP! Pirates, vikings, anarchy!

Proletarian Rock/Metal (not black)

Found this on RevLeft forum:

The band is called Metallarbeiter, and they play traditional German labour songs in rock/metal style. I don't know if they have released any albums, but I found their page on facebook. As for the song, it's "Die Arbeiter von Wein", a hymn of 1934 anti-fascist uprising in Linz and Vienna. It's actually a cover version of an old Red Army march called "Белая Армия, Черный Барон":

It's an original version with lyrics in Russian, sang by I.Baranov, the lead singer of Eshelon. I like this song even if my sympathy is on the side of Black Army (first and foremost). A Hungarian version of this song also exists:

And one more song found on Revleft. It's performed by a sludge/grrove metal band Byzantine, and the origional poster claims that he "haven't heard a band with a more explicitly pro-labor message in their lyrics. At least not a metal band":

Marnost - "Pukajici Svet" (2011)

MARNOST "Pukajici Svet"

Year: 2011
Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal
Country: Czech Republic

Track List:
  1. Pukajici Svet
DOWNLOAD

Marnost is a new (post-)black metal project from Czech Republic, and here's their first one-song demo, which was recorded in December 2010 / January 2011 within few hours in a rehearsal room and released on a cassette. It's also available for free on their Bandcamp page, along with all artwork.

It's surprisingly good stuff, and I'd recommend it to anyone who loves Cascadian black metal scene. Marnost is very simular to Cascadian bands both in sound and in ideology:

"...don't even think about sharing this release on your blog if you also share NSBM. NSBM is total bullshit and as a band and individuals we will never support any kind of oppressive ideology such as nazism, fascism, racism, homophobia or sexism"

Peregrine & Seeds In Barren Fields - split 7'' (2010)

PEREGRINE / SEEDS IN BARREN FIELDS split 7''

Year: 2010
Genre: Death Metal / Blackened Crust
Country: USA (Peregrine) / Sweden (SIBF)

Track List:
  1. In The Hands Of Liars (SIBF)
  2. You've Been Warned (Peregrine)
bandcamp / bandcamp
A long-awaited Peregrine/SIBF split, which should've been out a while ago, but there were some serious pressing issues. Both bands are strong supporters of the black/green anarchist ideology, and they're very simular in terms of sound. I especially like SIBF's side, with all these acoustic parts and sympho-black metal overtones.

I received this download link directly from Kevin Tucker of Peregrine, but it's a benefit release (just like "Green Scare" split), so it'd be good if you buy it.

Régimen - 'Insurrección del Sur' (video + English subtitles))

Some more stuff from Colombia; this time it's a leftist thrash metal band from Villavicencio, called Regimen. They're closely associated to the Colombian "Red Metal" movement. Here's an English translation of their song "Insurrecion del Sur" from their eponymous demo EP. As you can see, they're supporting a libertarian socialist revolution and the rights of indigenous South American people, who were especially hard hit by the Colombian civil war. Yes, the quality of their recording and the vocal work is far from perfect, but it's only the first demo, and they don't have such money and resources as major European and North American metal bands have.

Struck 9 - "Democracy" (2010)

I have a lot of new music for you, and let me start from an album by a non-metal band. Struck 9 is an electro-industrial project from Medellin, Antioquia (Colombia), formed in 2008. The name "Struck 9" is a reference to September 11, 2001 events. The members of Struck-9 define their genre as "Industrial" and "EBM"... though the difference between "EBM" and "dark electro" isn't clear for me, and I hope it wouldn't be a big mistake to place this album under the "dark electro" tag.

Struck 9 were highly influenced by local punk bands, namely Fertil Miseria, Restos de Tragedia, I.R.A, Desadaptadoz, Encisos After The Rain. They're currently working on a tribute to these bands. As for their ideological influences, it looks like they were mostly influenced by Maoism, but they also respect the "other activists and revolutionaries against the political system". And of course, one of the most important sources of their inspiration is the armed conflict in Colombia, which is still ongoing since the 1960s.

"Democracy" is their first album, freely available to download and share. They also have performed live in Colombia, and they have been asked to play in Mexico, Spain, Brazil, Italy, Sweden and Germany. But all the needed paperwork and requirements are kind of difficult to get, because a lot of people still believe that all Colombians are narco-terrorists...

A new anarcho-death metal project from Chile, which I already mentioned in my blog, finally released a debut album! I received it directly from the band's vocalist, but right now I can't reply him, because I lost his e-mail address, and our forum went down along with the whole netforums.us... Anyway, I hope he'll read this post. And as for the forum, right now I'm thinking about moving it to a paid host.

Though the sound of Legado De Odio isn't very original (it's blackened death metal in the vein of In Flames and simular bands), it isn't bad at all for a first release, and the message in their lyrics is openly anarchist and anti-religious. As it was stated in the release notes, the album is completely free for distribution (fuck copyright!).

Unlike the first two demos, this debut full-length album by this "Working Class Antichristian Blackened Sludge Punk" band from Minneapolis wasn't made available on the net by the band themselves, but I hope it's okay to post it here. However, if you want to buy it, it's available for purchase through Init Records. I can't hear much sludge on this album, it sounds more like old school blackened thrash metal/crust... but I like it more than sludge.

Cuban revolutionary metal and hardcore

And one more interesting find: a Cuban metal/rock portal. I already know that there's almost no metal or rock bands in the Caribbean, so it was surprising for me to see such a big list of bands. Unfortunately, it seems like most of them are playing generic nu-metal or metalcore... but there are also some interesting projects, namely Protesys (political hardcore/crossover thrash metal), or Resistenzia (formely hardcore/punk, now melodic death metal):There's also a band called Tendencia, playing some kind of rapcore/tribal folk metal highly influenced by the Afro-Cuban folk music. They're one of the oldest active Cuban rock bands (formed in 1993). Not really my kind of music, but they deserve attention because they have a lot of songs with lyrics dealing with political subjects, like Guevarism. My views on Che Guevara are far from admiration, and nowadays' Cuba seems to be as far from true socialism as China or Vietnam... but wait, I don't live there, and the members of Tendencia may have a better sight on all these matters. Here's their cover version of a well-known song "Hasta Siempre, Comandante" dedicated to the memory of Che Guevara:

And for a comparison - the same song, performed live by a Romanian band, Interitus Dei:

Заводь - "Ритуал / Ritual" (2011)

ЗАВОДЬ "Ритуал"

Genre: Blackened Crust
Country: Ukraine

And one more new EP from these Kharkiv-based blackened crusties. It's called "Ritual", and (IMO) now their sound is much better than on their early works - it's raw, powerful, and really "blackened". Enjoy! P.S. I'll post a lot more stuff in next few days - not only music, but also some researches on social and historical topics.
