New free EP from this Italian self-defined "Anti-Capitalistic Anarcho-Blackmetal (A.C.A.B.)" project, titled "Rabbia" ("Rage"). At first I thought I'm about to listen to a noise/industrial album after hearing the intro track, but the subsequent tracks turned out to be quite good BM (with rather unusual vocals, though). Overall, if you've heard LoC's first demo, then you know what to expect. Release notes (in broken English, but I left the original grammar and spelling intact):

"This time I told about the difficult situation of italy (we live in a bank dictature), the ex president Silvio Berlusconi and the U.S. Army's  bases in my little city. With this EP I try  to tell that is the Fascist Republic of italiy in this time  In Italy the situation is very hard, Some worker are pratically slaves of own job, Poor salary, lot of work [...] This isn't a country for anarchists or dissidents: Here they want only slaves"

Iprit - split w/ Desolate Age (2012)

IPRIT "split w/ Desolate Age"

Year: 2012
Genre: Blackened Crust, Raw Black Metal
Country: Russia

Track List:
  1. Silent And Rotten
  2. Echo
  3. Chain Reaction (Amebix cover)
DOWNLOAD

3 tracks from a split tape between Iprit and another BM band from Barnaul, Desolate Age, released in early 2012 by SnowCity Tapes. Maybe it isn't as good as Iprit's two demos, but at least the first track is definitely remarkable and has a very powerful, depressing atmosphere. The 2nd track has a kind of echoing/trembling sound which I didn't quite like, and the Amebix cover is maybe decent but not as good as the original. Overall I'd recommend listening to their demos first.

Bracken - "Beckoning The Rain" (2012)

BRACKEN "Beckoning the Rain"

Year: 2012
Genre: Blackened Sludge / Post-Punk
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Bridge
  2. Trudge
  3. Felled and falling
  4. Occupation
  5. Cycles
  6. Masquerade
bandcamp

"From Asheville NC, amongst the ancient blue ridge mountains of southern appalachia, we draw inspiration from the awe-evoking expanses of wilderness, as well as the mundane drudgery of our everyday lives. Intersecting the straight-forward anger of punk rock and hardcore with the introspective elements of black metal and doom we attempt to pay tribute to the many forces shaping our existence"

Honestly I'm not a big fan of the kind of music presented on this demo, but it's anarchist stuff made by the readers of my blog - so I'm posting it in hope to give Bracken more promotion. As I've already said, it's a rather strange mix of blackened crust, doom/sludge and post-punk, but I think it'll appeal to if not all then some of my readers.

BM-influenced metallic crust/hardcore from serbia. Unfortunately I don't have much info about the band, but they think this album (first one after 10 years since the last recording) will be a good addition to my blog. Archive contains all the covers and translations of lyrics into English.

Some more music from my readers -  this time a band from Italy, active since 2010 and released their first EP album in 2011. A new 7'' split with Brivido, a HC band from Croatia, is in the plans. Can't say it's exactly "blackened" as such, but it's good stuff which deserves to be on my blog.

Of Prey - "Worlds Fade Away" (2012)

OF PREY "Worlds Fade Away"

Year: 2012
Genre: Dark Hardcore / Neocrust
Country: Australia

Track List:
  1. When Addiction Becomes Our Survival
  2. This Is Not A Call To Arms (Its Just A Fashion Statement)
  3. Arson
  4. The Aussie Swasi
  5. Creating Dangerous Bonds
  6. To Exist
  7. Don't Let Me Veil My Privilege In My Shame
  8. Terra Not Terror
  9. Worlds Fade Away
bandcamp

Debut release from a Melbourne-based anarcho-crust band whose members listen and love black metal. It's soon to be available in physical form (in a hand screened, hand glued jacket with lyric sheet and maybe random other goodies; limited to 200 copies). For those who are interested:  weareallofprey (AT) gmail (DOT) com. Personally I feel they have a potential to become another Ecocide, but right now I must admit that their music generally lacks coherence and is somewhat hard to follow. The vocal work might be better too, but I understand it's only a first release, and it isn't bad for a beginning.

"Worlds Fade Away is our first release. It is what we have come up with over the last year. Some songs take aim at particular "issues" that come up when you grow up in this culture of occupation, others are comments on solidarity, resistance and existence. Please get in touch if you feel the need"

Sedative - "Viceroton" (2012)

SEDATIVE "Viceroton"

Year: 2012
Genre: Death Metal / Grindcore
Country: France / Switzerland

Track List:
  1. Viceroton
  2. Violences Conjugales
  3. Feed In
  4. Euphorie
  5. E-Breed
  6. Vomi
DOWNLOAD

"Viceroton" is a new EP from Sedative, a French death/grind band w/ members of Incrüst in their lineup. Unfortunately I accidentally deleted the e-mail with additional details, so I'd only say that it's a very good EP, although a bit too short. Will check out their full-length releases a little later.

Panopticon - "Kentucky" (2012)

PANOPTICON "Kentucky"

Year: 2012
Genre: Atmospheric Black Metal, Acoustic Folk/Country/Bluegrass
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Bernheim Forest in Spring
  2. Bodies Under the Falls
  3. Come All Ye Coal Miners
  4. Black Soot and Red Blood
  5. Which Side Are You On?
  6. Killing the Giants as They Sleep
  7. Black Waters
  8. Kentucky
bandcamp
I think Austin Lunn of Panopticon needs no introduction, and here's his latest full-length release, "Kentucky". It has already received a lot of critical acclaim, and a lot of people consider it a masterpiece and a groundbreaking release. It should be noted, however, that a half of the tracks on "Kentucky" aren't metal, but bluegrass (a subgenre of acoustic folk/country originated in Kentucky). I personally am not a fan of country/bluegrass/americana/etc., but the idea of "blackgrass" seems interesting and was already implemented to some extent on the earlier albums by Panopticon. As far as I can understand, the "folk" part of this album is mostly a homage to the coal miners of Kentucky and their musical culture.

Ionnsaich - "va. and vn. learn, teach" (2012)

IONNSAICH "va. and vn. learn, teach"

Year: 2012
Genre: Blackened Neofolk
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Celestial and Textual Signs
  2. Lady of Lawlor
  3. Will We Heed
  4. Despairing
bandcamp / facebook / blog

Yet another one-man folk project from Cascadia. The music is basically acoustic folk with aggressive vocals, something in the vein of Into the Rhine and Legion of Moon. Release notes:

"The demo is called "va. and vn. learn, teach" and was recorded by Ignat from Wreck and Reference & a limited 25 tapes will be released on Amputape. This release has been my break from the confines of a band.

After listening to lots of Cascadian/American/Anarchist/Acoustic BM, Neo-folk, & acoustic acts I found myself wanting. Plugged in bands will not last when the "revolution" or "Apocalypse" comes. Where will they be when the generator runs out? Many Neo-folk & acoustic acts either put me to sleep or are based in a folk-punk back round both of which do not embody my outlook. I consider this music to truly be one man acoustic metal.

However ionnsaich is more than just my boredom of musical genres. this is a chronicling of my learning experience of the transcendental powers around & inside me. I consider it no coincidence that all of these songs were written after a challenging experience & after the fact learned that they occurred during a large celestial movement. ie: Lunar Eclipse Aligned w/the pleades, A full moon with an eclipse in Gemini, ect..."

Crooked Mouth - s/t (2012)

CROOKED MOUTH "Crooked Mouth"

Year: 2012
Genre: Acoustic Folk
Country: Canada

Track List:
  1. Moontrance
  2. A Crow's Song
  3. Valar Morghulis
  4. The Song of Quark the Raven
  5. Children of the Sun (Hawkwind cover)
bandcamp / buy tape

Crooked Mouth is an acoustic side project of Ian (Harrow, ex-Wraith). Personally I prefer his metal releases, but I'm sure many of my readers are interested in Cascadian folk as well. Release notes:

"Recorded January MMXII in isolation on the shore of Lake Babine.

ALL MONEY MADE BY THIS RELEASE WILL BE DONATED TO FIGHT THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE "NORTHERN GATEWAY" OIL PIPELINE.

I for one will not see this land desecrated by the greed of this society. I will stand against this wanton rape of our Earth until my last breath."

Black Trinity & Cancer Spreading - split (2012)

BLACK TRINITY / CANCER SPREADING "split 7''"

Year: 2012

  2. CANCER SPREADING - Ignition (intro)
  3. CANCER SPREADING - A New Dawn's Prophecy

Newest split 7'' featuring two bands both of which were already featured on my blog. Release notes (from Black Trinity):

"This is Black Metal the way it is supposed to be. Raw, ugly, extreme, violent. A nuisance to the mainstream, the decent, the normal. Against fancy labels, over-played/over-produced shit, trends. Black Metal must stay underground. That is why DIY applies perfectly in black metal. And just like Satan is considered to be against God, in our case "satan" is the opposition to all kinds of hierarchy, oppression, fascism, dictates, aiming ultimately to their destruction. No Gods, No Masters. DIY ist Krieg. Destroy NSBM!"

Von Drakus - "The End" (2012)

VON DRAKUS "The End"

Year: 2012

Hardcore from Giessen (same town as Depravation), a 4-piece band that exists since 2009. "The End" is their second release - an one-sided 12'' limited to 300 copies that was self-recorded by the band and released on Dark Omen Records (a label run by one of Depravation members). Like all Dark Omen Rec. releases, it's free for download.

Autumnal Equinox open air: 22th of September

The same people that organized I & II Discomfort announce a new RABM-related open air festival for 22th of September. The event will take place in the vicinity of Moscow (the location will be specified later), and will be dedicated to the celebration of Autumnal Equinox. Expected line-up:

    • Fatum (metal punk, stenchcore / Moscow region)
    • Axidance (epic crust, black metal / Moscow-Tver-Ivanovo)
    • Kora (atmospheric black metal / Moscow)
    • Nimrud (melancholic post-metal / Moscow)
    • АНЮТИНЫ ГЛАНДЫ (sludge-doom-black-whatever metal, SPb)
    • Омут (one-man-band, depressive black metal, dark ambient / Ivanovo)
    • Diswarp (d-beat punk / Ryazan)
    • Vargtimmen (atmospheric black metal / Moscow)
    • Acid Vicious (Anti-Cimex worship / SPb)
    • Distonn (breakcore / SPb)
event page

Well, looks like we've finally got something to be proud of - in the 3 years we've built a sizable RABM-friendly community that's capable for organizing gigs on more or less regular basis (at least in Moscow and SPb). The general situation in the country is quite bad, though. Right now I'm way too tired, but tomorrow I'll try to shed more light on what's currently happening here (the consequences of PR trial, etc.)
