Iprit - "Spontomsosplita" (2014)

IPRIT "Spontomsosplita"

Year: 2014
Genre: Black Metal, Blackened Punk
Country: Russia

Track List:
  1. Укрыться в темноте
  2. Dancing in Shackles
  3. Black & White Portraits
bandcamp

Several previously unreleased tracks, recorded by these black metal punks from Barnaul in February 2012. Sounds no worse than their other releases from the same period (but nothing really remarkable, though). Hope they'll record a full-length album sooner or later.

Deafest - "Alpine Expanse" (2014)

DEAFEST "Alpine Expanse"

Year: 2014
Genre: Instrumental Atmospheric Black Metal
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. The Waterfall in the Woods
  2. The Peak Above the Pines
  3. Meadow
bandcamp

A new 3-track EP from Chase, whose project Deafest (which, in my opinion) is one of the best Cascadian-style black metal projects outside of Cascadia) was already featured on here by Hayduke X. There's also an anti-NSBM compilation in the works, with Deafest taking part of it, but I don't know when it's going to be released.

Karg / Schattenlicht - "Trümmermensch" (2013)

KARG / SCHATTENLICHT "Trümmermensch"

Year: 2013
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Austria

Track List:

Karg
  1. Asternregen
  2. Hetzjagd nach Dystopia
  3. Zurück in die Fluten
Schattenlicht
  1. Gedankenlabyrinth
  2. Das Licht des ersehnten Tages
  3. Widerstand

Another really good split that was released in 2013, which I forgot to post back then. While I'm pretty sure that Schattenlicht are a DIY and anarchist band, I don't know anything about Karg. Looks like its only member also plays in Schattenlicht (at least on live shows); can't be sure about it, though.

Ash & Ruin / Iskra - split (2013)

ISKRA / ASH AND RUIN

Year: 2013
Genre: Blackened Crust
Country: Poland / Canada

Track List:
  1. ASH AND RUIN - Popiół i Ruina
  2. ISKRA - Machine Infernale
DOWNLOAD

I didn't know anything about the existence of this 7'' split until very recently, even though Iskra are one of the most important blackened crust bands out there, and I'm trying to follow their news:

"Ash & Ruin is a side project of Suffering Mind members, known also from Hellisheaven, Enth plus one member of Ceaseless Desolation (stench crust from Poland). This time serving blackened crust from the depths of eastern forests. On the other side pure black metal crust straight from Canada..."

Siberian Hell Sounds - s/t (2013)

SIBERIAN HELL SOUNDS "Siberian Hell Sounds"

Year: 2013
Genre: Grindcore
Country: Australia

Track List:
  1. Bastard Machine
  2. A Cold Presence
  3. Infernal Hurricane
  4. The Tallest Horn
  5. Tension
  6. Reign Of The Bastard
  7. Streets Of Piss
  8. Burning Breath / Exhale Death

"The legend holds that a team of Russian scientists purportedly led by an individual named "Mr. Azzacov" in an unnamed place in Siberia had drilled a hole that was nine miles (14.5 km) deep before breaking through to a cavity. Intrigued by this unexpected discovery, they lowered an extremely heat tolerant microphone, along with other sensory equipment, into the well. The temperature deep within was 2,000 °F (1,100 °C) — heat from a chamber of fire from which (purportedly) the tormented screams of the damned could be heard..."

Of course this relatively well-know story is complete BS, since such a deep borehole never existed anywhere in Siberia, and the "recording" turned out to be a soundtrack to some old horror movie. There was, however, a very deep borehole near Murmansk (not in Siberia), whose chief engineer once mentioned an observation of a very strange noise and something resembling an explosion (which was recorded not with a microphone, but with a geophone, though). This project also gave a lot of very unexpected scientific data, but nothing too "mystical" (except for that incident with an unidentified noise, which probably became the source for that "well to hell" hoax).

Siberian Hell Sounds are a 3-piece band from Brisbane, Australia (some other sources say they're from California, though), named after the aforementioned legend. Their primary influences are Pig Destroyer, Left for Dead and Slayer, and at least one of their members is a massive fan of my blog:

"Here's a link to our bandcamp with both our releases (the PCPEP from Jan, 2014 and the Siberian Hell Sounds EP from Sep, 2013):

Hope it inspires a church burning or two..."

This is the Filthy Charity's side of their 10'' split that was released last year. I already have mentioned this very long-running band from Marseille on my blog, but I don't remember if I have posted any of their releases before. A short review of this split can be found on crust-demos blog.

This is a rare and interesting compilation of Moroccan death metal & grindcore of the 2000's (2001-2011), sent to me by Nicholas (Blasphemyth, Theophagus). All the bands on this sampler are very obscure, and I don't have any info on them (except for Blasphemyth, of course). Most of the tracks are apparent rehearsal/live recorded stuff, so you can guess the quality of recording. That said, if you're into very raw,  80's style, old school death/black metal, or if you're interested in North African metal scene in general, don't overlook this compilation - it includes a lot of bands whose tracks would be very hard to find elsewhere.

Krätze - demo (2014)

KRAETZE "demo 1"

Year: 2014
Genre: Raw Black Metal
Country: Germany

Track List:
  1. Ketzer
bandcamp

Krätze is a new one-man BM project "from the dark forests of middle Germany". This is a very basic demo consisting of only one short song which has a very raw sound; however, it at least shows the direction in which the project is going to continue. The founder of Krätze is a reader of my blog, and definitely wants his project to be associated with RABM.

Taramis - "Night Lore" (2014)

TARAMIS "Night Lore"

Year: 2014
Genre: Dark Ambient, Dungeon Synth

  1. Sonnet For The Raven
  2. Beneath The Ancient Moon
  3. Vision Within' The Silence Of Night
  4. Manifestations Of The Spirits
  5. Deep Woods, Dark And Cold
bandcamp

A new release from Eric (Taramis), whom you are already familiar with. Unfortunately, he can't put it up for free download, because it's intended to be released on cassette as a split w/ another dark ambient project (Hrungnir), by Mithrim Records - a small up and coming label that only deals with ambient synth type music. The tape is limited to 25 copies, and you can orded it @ the label's bandcamp page. They also have a blog, where you can find an interview with both of the artists presented on the tape.

The Eye Unclouded - "Listening" (2014)

THE EYE UNCLOUDED "Listening"

Year: 2011
Genre: Progressive Metal, Instrumental Black Metal
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Glow of Permanence
  2. Above, At Rest
  3. Center
  4. The Unattainable
  5. Listening

The Eye Unclouded is an avant-garde metal project from Minneapolis. Although this EP has no lyrics, it's a kind of a concept album:

"At its core, The Eye Unclouded is the elemental non serviam- a thousand yells into a void of absolutes. It is a sonic representation of individualism, defiance, and spiritual decay and rebirth. These and other progressive concepts are integral to TEU's art...", and according to TEU, many of said concepts are shared by my blog.

They Shall Be Drowned - "We Gladly Feast On Those Who Would Subdue Us" (2011)

THEY SHALL BE DROWNED "We Gladly Feast On Those Who Would Subdue Us"

Year: 2011
Genre: DSBM
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Tree
  2. Moon
  3. Star
  4. Void
"The spirit of this release was developed through an appreciation of nature, but arose from an undercurrent of loss and journey". Besides, I don't have much info about TSBD, except they're a duo hailing from NeW Jersey. Musically, this release is just depressive BM/ambient, nothing particularly outstanding here. They're going to release a new work (titled "Weightless, Godless, Moonless, Soulless") this year, and this 2011 EP can be purchased from Satanica Productions.

Genre: Black Metal
Country: Germany

Track List:
  1. Roter Sand
  2. Kohärenzlängen
  3. Zwiegestalt
  4. Argan
bandcamp / facebook

AST are a new two-piece band from Berlin who released their first EP in August 2013. Their lyrics are mostly non-political, but they're strictly against NSBM and everything that's associated with it. Musically, it's very good, probably the best out of all the releases from Germany I've posted here recently. These 4 tracks are the A-side of the cassette, the B-side is a 20 minutes long drone track which you can listen to on youtube, if you want.

bandcamp

Finally, a full-length album from Blackend Horizon. It sounds a bit different from "Schritte", and Till himself isn't very satisfied with the quality of production. His own description of the album will say it all better, I think:

"So finally here it is...
After 4 Demos and the "Schritte"-EP.. the first full-length of Blackend Horizon.
"Hivernale... und der Rest ist nur Schatten" is a mixture of everything i released before, containing the atmosphere, the chaotic parts and the unlistenable crappy DIY-Sound.
Something went wrong during the mastering process... that´s why the songs will sound slightly different from each other. [...]
To release it after months of work is very satisfying.
 A CD-release is planned"

Bluntshit - s/t (2014)

BLUNTSHIT "Bluntshit"

Year: 2014
Genre: Metallic Crust/Hardcore

  5. Halt die Fresse!
  6. Revenge of Stench
  7. VDH
  8. PitShit
bandcamp

Bluntshit are an antifascist band from Berlin who define their style as just "fast hc/punk", but I'd say there's quite big metallic crust influence as well. Yes, it's shit... a very good shit, I must say! For those of my readers in Germany who wish to see them live - next gig dates:

29.05.14: Neubrandenburg - AJZ - Punx Picnic
07.07.14: Berlin - Koma F - w/ Hard Charger
26.07.14: Zwickau - Barrikade - w/ The Argies & Straight Hate
27.09.14: Jena - Haus - w/ Reisegruppe Morgenthau

Timekiller - "Bleed Out" (2014)

TIMEKILLER "Bleed Out"

Year: 2014
Genre: Raw Metallic Crust/Hardcore
Country: Brazil

Track List:
  1. Burden
  2. Kill The Judges
  3. Bleed Out
  4. Sinking In Shit
  5. Half Empty
  6. Sick Vision
  7. Time Heals Nothing
bandcamp

Timekiller are a band that was started not so long ago by an American currently living in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. The band is made up of members from bands such as Deaf Kids, Drone Throne, Prosthetics, and Speed Kills. They've finished their debut EP "Bleed Out", which they're very proud of, about 3 months ago, and now are hoping to get a label outside of Brasil to release it and help with distributing it. Musically, it's very fuzzed-out and distorted style of hardcore which draws influenced from old school speed metal as well as from Japanese and Scandanavian hardcore/crust.

P.S. If you want more of this kind of metallic/blackened punk from Brazil, check out the new EP by Insvlariz, which features mostly songs from their 1st live demo, along with a few new ones.

Gulag - "Black Flag" (2014)

GULAG "Black Flag"

Year: 2014
Genre: Post-Black Metal / Acoustic

Track List:
  1. Black Flag

"Gulag is a brazilian band of Red & Anarchist Black Metal, DSBM and Cold metal, founded in 2013 by Mael Haxan and Azel Oliver. After the death of Azel, Morus joined the band in 2014."

I have no idea what they mean by "cold metal", but I'd say this album is a little bit of everything. There are DSBM parts, doom/drone parts (in the vein of In Flagrante Delicto), ambient and purely acoustic parts. The overall quality of production is quite decent, though. In Flagrante Delicto - "Ultio" (2013)

IN FLAGRANTE DELICTO "Ultio"

Year: 2013
Genre: Doom/Drone/Blackgaze
Country: Greece

Track List:
  1. Intro
  2. Inanimus
  3. Ultio
  4. Apatris
  5. Cursum Perficio
  6. Dolus
  7. Antigrecia
  8. Outro
bandcamp

In Flagrante Delicto are a duo from Athens whose music would be best described as doom/drone with some elements of depressive BM and shoegaze. Both of the band members are definitely anarchist and think of my blog as one of the very few pages around black metal with a clear political thesis that's very close to theirs. "Ultio" is their first full-length album which was released on CD (limited to 50 copies) by Brigade International Records.

I Want The Moon - "Downfall" (2013)

I WANT THE MOON "Downfall"

Year: 2013
Genre: Melodic Hardcore
Country: Greece

Track List:
  1. Alter The Emptiness
  2. Downfall
  3. A Point In Time
  4. La Guerre Est Declare
bandcamp

This is just hardcore without any signiciant metal influences, but since it's quite good and they apparently are my readers, I'll post this EP. Same for Overpain, which is another Greek hardcore band (but more of the "beatdown" kind).

Some info on IWTM:

"I Want The Moon is a dark hardcore band based in Athens, Greece. The band started rehearsing in June 2011.

Coming from diverse musical backgrounds we are trying to agglomerate our different musical & cultural influences. Rock’n’roll rebellion, the diy spirit of Punk, the dark mood of the ’80’s, are all mixed with the energy of Hardcore. The compositions are dark and more or less dreary yet melodic and sometimes atonal.

Our identity is reflected in the way we live, behave and create. We prefer to play benefit gigs in squats, self managed venues, or temporary autonomous zones with free entrance.

Despite of all the angst that stems from our surroundings and is imprinted in our music we do have a positive stance and manage to keep our creative think tank full of benevolent energy in order to cope with the bleakness around us.

The lyrical themes deal with frustration and anger instilled with allegories and cynicism that emerge from the fact that we live in a fascist police state controlled by political mafia and supported by corrupted conservative minds..."

Here's another hardcore rap album which I wanted to post long time ago. Surely there's a lot of good anarchist hip-hop around, and I'm not planning to post all of it on here, but I'll make an exception for this one. I know virtually nothing about XWolf Cell SolidX (also written wolf-cell-solid) except they're a side project of a straight edge hip-hop group called superXcontra:

"From the underground into your scene and taking over - superXcontra is comin through to give a true alternative to all those hardcore and straight-edge kids that love hip-hop but are straight tired of the bling, cars, and hoes bullshit that has no true message or meaning - taking the old school hardcore ethic of two thirds message one third music down a totally different route, superXcontra have concocted a lethal dose of 100% SXE underground hip-hop"

I anyone's interested, here's the only superXcontra LP "Never Give In - Never Surrender" (2005), but I personally prefer the material which they've recorded later as wolf-cell-solid, since it's way better. While I'm neither vegan nor straight edge (but pretty close to), I respect them for making really combative and inspirational music. Plus it isn't like there's a lot of sXe hip-hop out there - I can think only of XReign of TerrorX and the likes, and some really mediocre local projects such as XJihadX, XGreenNemesisX, or XJeffry GoinesX (the latter isn't that bad, though) - so it'd be pretty safe to say that XWolf Cell SolidX are one of the best among their kind.

Since a lot of people are coming to my blog while searching for the newest release of MDB, I decided to post it here. Moreover, it's a rare occasion when they release something intended for the English-speaking audience (in fact, they rarely release anything new at all, but if they do, then it's most likely top notch stuff). This EP sounds harsher than everything they've recorded prior to this, and consists of 5 tracks of pure circle pit hip-hop: angry rapping over metal/punk samples&beats. Yes, I know they're just SHARP and not RASH or anything like that - but as I have already said, for me they're much more anarchist than many of self-proclaimed anarchist bands, and definitely one of the very best antifascist hip-hop acts out there.

By the way, they're finishing their European tour (mostly Germany, but they also have visited France, Belgium, Poland, Slovakia and Czech Republic), and if you want to see them live, you still have a chance (tomorrow they'll perform in Berlin, on 31st - in Hamburg).

A new release from two of my readers from the wasteland that is Middle Oregon. Overall, their approach to music never was too serious (which is evident from their name and some of their songtitles), so don't expect any superior quality from their music. However, if you just love raw DIY crust/stenchcore (musically as primitivist as the ideology of at least one of their members), this EP is for you.

"...I've got an album that I've been working on for a few years now and I feel it's something I would definitely like to share with the RABM community. It was recorded in pieces and it's not superior quality music or anything, but it's a piece of art that I've held pretty close to my heart. Songs themes vary from personal topics to our political views to text based role playing games I used to do on message boards to hallucinations and visions...

A band I've been following a lot after reading your blog is Wilds Reprisal from Portland. His work has helped turn me onto and identify with the reality of deep ecology, which is a concept we want to bring into further albums! We also identify a lot with the content released by Ramlord, Panopticon, and crust bands like Sanctum, Stormcrow, and Skaven.

My drummer has been in and out of train hopping, but he's here right now. He has spoke of living in the woods like his grandpa and living in the wild. He has somewhat of a primitive/survivalist outlook and acts upon it when he chooses which seems pretty natural to me and is something I want to create as a unit"

Believe it or not, but first time I heard about this band was shortly after this album was released (2002 or 2003, I was only starting to get into really underground music back then). So you can imagine how I was surprised when I received a message from one of their members not so long ago. According to him, the band is inactive during the last few years, but they now have a bandcamp page with all their releases (mostly singles/EPs). They've played with the likes of Hecate Enthroned, Anaal Nathrackh and Ackercocke as well as Alec Empire, Die Krupps and Amebix.

"We are a 2 piece anarchist/socialist band from Minneapolis, Minnesota trying to engage the scene here with radical politics. This is especially important as socialist politics have had a real return here in Minneapolis and we are happy to support the rebirth of left politics. I love that this music is able to isolate us from the more direct consumerist and corporate influence that other scenes don't protect their fans from. This can be seen in the great DIY ethic and collectives around the city. But we need to start leaving the bubble and realize our political potential.

This is our first release with a pretty limited tape release, but if people bug us enough we might do a rerelease. Its called Hatchling, recorded at Fuck Mountain and released on the house's new label..."

"Regnum Animale is a Swedish extreme metal duo. Born in the soil of Swedish d-beat and crust. The songs on this first release circles around topics like freedom and being traped and unfree, alienation towards civilization and the state of human society today"

It's a bit different from most Scandinavian crust I've heard (a bit more melodic, and the vocal style is somewhat peculiar), yet it's quite good for a debute EP. I agree with them that it'd fit my blog very well.

Asfixia were a female-fronted neocrust band from Bilbao (Basque Country) active from 2005 to 2008, highly influenced by other Spanish metallic crust bands of this time (like Ekkaia) and the 90's crust & dark hardcore/screamo (Anomie, Unhinged, Day By Day, Lost World) as well. They've contacted me not so long ago, asking to post this split with another Basque band called Annunaki Revenge. Asfixia side of this split was recorded in 2007. Here's a full compilation of what they've ever recorded, if anyone is interested. If I understood them right, their ideological stance is quite close to anarcho-primitivism.

Finally, a full-length release from a band that have appeared on my blog quite a lot of times before. Out of everything I've posted here recently, it's best comparable to Leechfeast. There's also a new album from another band that sounds similar to Asilo and was featured on my blog before - Windmill of Corpses - but I'll probably leave reviewing it to my co-editors...

"In Comunión we could listen many of the influences involved in Asilo: Doom, Drone Metal, Crust, Hardcore Punk, Industrial, Noise y Post Punk are mixtured in the whole album, molding an own sound identity.

Comunión is the first release of the band with actual band members (Manuel, Sebastian, Nacho y Sebaxxxtian). They are eager to playing live in 2014, besides of setting up new stuff for further releases.

Comunión is available for downloading/streaming in bandcamp, also it can be downloaded in Zann’s Music, label that will release it on cd in Argentina. distroiart will release it on tape; Confirmations of further editions in Brasil, Colombia, Chile, and other countries are being awaited"

Uncle Grasha's Flying Circus - "Cruiser Potemkin is Everywhere" (2014)

UNCLE GRASHA'S FLYING CIRCUS " Cruiser Potemkin is Everywhere"

Year: 2014
Genre: Noise
Country: Czech Republic

"Uncle Grasha's Flying Circus is dada-surrealistic project. It was found on Spitzbergen, avantgarde poet Willhelm Grasslich was beaten to unconsciousness by 51 nuns there. It produces style called nun-core, basically it means surrealistic noise ambient. Cruiser Potemkin is Everywhere is the first album, which was composed mainly on computer programme. Album was created during spring of 2014"

...Actually, it's just Czech ambient/noise, made by a member of an underground DIY community called  Pravěk - which, by all appearance, is very RABM-friendly. Their Greek counterparts maight be ZAM and their project Pornostroika Dadaifi - but UG'FC is a bit more noisy.

Another band from Slovenia, with a raw 4-song demo released as a tape by Štrigon Records:

P.S. There are much more demos sent to me while I wasn't very active here, and I hope to review at least some of them in the next few days. Stay tuned.

Marnost & Leechfeast - split (2014)

MARNOST / LEECHFEAST

Year: 2014
Genre: Black Metal / Sludge
Country: Czech Republic / Slovenia

Track List:

  1. MARNOST - Lidé si kupují pečené kaštany
  2. LEECHFEAST - Miasmata
bandcamp / bandcamp

As I've promised, I'm posting the 2nd recent release from Marnost. Although I liked their split with Oaken more than this one, it deserves to be on here too. The only song on Marnost side sounds quite experimental, and has a pretty strange name as well (in fact, it's based on a 1927 poem by a Czech anarcho-communist writer S.K.Neumann).

"Leechfeast from Slovenia is a diy gloomy sludge/doom band featuring members of Paperplanecrash, Landverraad or Melete. On this record they have one superheavy 7min song that sounds like Black Sabbath on heroin. Marnost are a czech anarchist blackmetal/experimental project with members of Gattaca, Remek, Lakmé or Dakhma and here they have an unorthodox and very experimental 7min song. The following labels co-released the split: Burina (sk), Catanarchy (at), Dingleberry (ger), IFB (usa), MxFxL (cz), Neadnderthal Stench (bel), Rope or Guillotine (nl). 525 pieces on black vinyl were made"

Marnost & Oaken - split (2014)

  1. MARNOST - Die Hamletmaschine (v2.0)
  2. OAKEN - I'm the Crucifix
  3. OAKEN - Redeemer
bandcamp / bandcamp

There are two new records involving Marnost, the best Czech RABM project, which just came out on vinyl last month. Here's one of them - a split LP with Oaken, a dark hardcore/post-metal band from Hungary closely linked to Rivers Run Dry, highly influenced by His Hero Is Gone and Amenra. The second one is a split with Slovenian sludge/doom band Leechfeast, which I'll post a bit later.

Bandärløg - "Bandärløg (EP)" (2014)

Year: 2014
Genre: Blackened Hardcore
Country: Russia

Track List:
  1. Терапия д-ра Гильотена (28.07.1794)
  2. Beau Séant (18.03.1314)
  3. Маленький божий сапог (24.01.41)
bandcamp

A new EP from the best Russian blackened hardcore band I know so far. Formally, it isn't black metal, but it's more dark and genuinely misanthropic than a lot of "true" BM. I have no idea if the band members know about my blog or not, but I hope they won't be against me posting this EP on here.

Grst - Fire Therein (2014)

GRST - FIRE THEREIN

Year:  2014
Genre:  Black Metal
Country: USA

Track List

  1. Cut Their Grain and Place Fire Therein
  2. Dead As Dreams
Download

This is the second post I've made about Grst, and American Black Metal band on the Glossolalia label.  In this case, the band covers two songs from seminal USBM band Weakling, and does so in fine style.  Though only two tracks long, the EP still hits nearly 30 minutes of intense Black Metal.  As you'll see in the write up from the band themselves, members of Grst cross-pollinate with other Glossolalia bands, including the band Banewreaker, the first band I personally posted on this blog.  To hear an interview with Banewreaker recorded for my internet radio program, click here.  The interview starts roughly an hour into the episode.

Here is what the band has to say about the album:  "The April-May crossover has long been decorated with fire and ritual. Historically, it has been a time to celebrate fecundity and reproduction, and so it is in that tradition that this offering is made.

Grst and Glossolalia Records present Fire Therein, a half-hour homage to Weakling's seminal USBM record, Dead as Dreams. With their single legendary document, Weakling cut a tremendous swath across American black metal, fertilizing the genre by inspiring countless other bands and artists. This second entry from Grst represents a large portion of Weakling's original album, namely their titular track, Dead as Dreams, as well as Cut Their Grain and Place Fire Therein, from which the tribute similarly derives a moniker.

This Grst recording is the product of several Glossolalia alumni. Guitar, keyboard, and drum tracks were engineered by Josh Vincent (Banewreaker, LORD) with additional guitar work from Nathanael Kelley (Aesthetic of Failure, Arkhum, Banewreaker). The vocal performance was delivered by Kenneth Parker (Arkhum, Willowbrook). Vocal recording, mixing, and mastering were engineered by Stephen Parker at The Wilderness Studios."

Act of Impalement - "Echoes of Wrath" (2014)

ACT OF IMPALEMENT "Echoes of Wrath"

Year: 2014
Genre: Blackened Death/Doom Metal
Country: USA

Track List:
  1. Echoes of War
  2. Heathen Omens
  3. Atrocities & the Spiritual Rape
bandcamp

A new EP from the Nashville-based band whose releases already were feature on my blog a couple of times. They call their sound "war doom", and in fact it's something in between of old school death metal, BM, doom, and crust punk. Definitely recommended if you like their previous release ("Hyperborean Altar").
