Voice Eater - Con Armas (2016)

VOICE EATER - "CON ARMAS"

Year: 2016
Genre: Blackened Crust, Noise
Country: United States

Track List:

  1. Empesamos
  2. Bitter Struggle
  3. Piss of your Enemies
  4. Systemic Bleed
  5. Failure In Death
  6. Huesos Quebrados
  7. Propagandist Crush
  8. Life Roiter
  9. Decrepit Icon
  10. Sustain Your Wounds
  11. Chiapas

Voice Eater is a two piece from Arizona. Describing themselves as raw black metal/powerviolence with noisecore tendencies. Con Armas is an extreme lo-fi release with radical leftist leanings. Voice Eater is inspired by the EZLN as well as various anti-imperialist, anti-fascist, and anti-music projects. Safe to say using the term crust wraps this up pretty nicely but see for yourself.

Gudsforladt - "Gudsforladt EP" (2016)

GUDSFORLADT - "GUDSFORLADT EP"

Year: 2016
Genre: Black Metal, Depressive
Country: United States

Track List:

  1. Trauma Churns Within
  2. They Hate You
  3. Blood From Asphalt

Gudsforladt is a seemingly communist siding black metal project hailing from Salem, Massachusetts and this appears to be the debut release from him.

It's not a particularly long EP but it's tasteful and definitely suited for people who enjoy raw, depressive tinged black metal. Some keyboard ambience and clean guitar interludes further emphasize the depressive element in between tracks.

Hopefully this won't be the only release from this project as I enjoyed the small tidbit and am hoping to hear more in the future.

SIDE NOTE: Please remember that if you're going to send me music, include "RABM blog" in the subject line or message somewhere. I also run a label so I occasionally get submissions and I can easily confuse the two. Also if I don't happen to respond within a few days, feel free to email again. I'm not easily annoyed and I check frequently so I try my best to not miss any messages when they come through.

Incendiariat - "Parto y Desastre" (2015)

INCENDIARIAT "Parto y Desastre"

Year: 2015
Genre: Post-Metal
Country: Colombia

Track List:
  1. Camino a la disolución del cielo
  2. Madre, llévatelos. Déjame en la tierra. Devuélveme mis muertos
  3. Sobre partos y escapes de la fábrica
bandcamp / facebook

Another interesting release made in South America that arrived in my mail just yesterday. Incendiariat are from Bogota, Colombia, and their music can be descibed as "post-metal" - or, more accurately, a mix of BM, sludge, post-rock and screamo. Quite experimental stuff. The lyrics are said to be about the concept of rupture interpreted in diverse forms - from going from one place to another as a refugee, to the confrontation with death in the armed conflict that has beaten Colombia for the last 50 years. Their bandcamp page has a lengthy text in Spanish that probably explains that concept better. At least one of their members has followed this blog for several years, and I think it's a quite good contribution from him.

Infame - "No hay Quien nos Salve" (2015)

INFAME "No Hay Quien Nos Salve"

Year: 2015
Genre: Sludge/Doom Metal
Country: Chile

Track List:
  1. Violadores con Sotana
  2. No hay Quien los Salve
  3. Infame
  4. Angustia y Frustración
  5. Cementerio Palphytvm
  6. Llenos de Nada
  7. Oscuras Remembranzas
  8. Sangre
bandcamp / facebook

Looks like Escvro isn't going to be the last band to be posted here by me, because just today I received another album from a South American band which certainly deserves to be on here. Infame are a trio from Antofagasta, Chile, who are playing heavy doom/sludge metal. At least one of their members reads my blog for years and supports the anti-fascist attitude. Their lyrics are mostly about the "frustrations caused by this unfair society led by a few pigs", with some black humour as well. This album isn't available for download or digital purchase at this movement, but you can stream it off bandcamp.

And a final thing for today: a new EP from a Brazilian one-man project which supports our blog as well as TDSAU and the (RA)BM underground in general. As always, this EP is completely free for download and distribution. Hopefully I've posted everything I needed now, and will finally leave all the future submissions to the other contributors...

Benbrudd - "Pest" (2015)

  1. Waters Of Oblivion

bandcamp

One more band that was mentioned in our VK group, this time it's a band of one of the moderators and the most active posters there. It's regular black metal with the usual lyrical themes, but I hope you'll be interested anyway. Upd.: didn't notice it isn't available for free download on bandcamp at this moment, but it's still available for streaming.

kageraw - "I Fission" (2015)

KAGERAW "I Fission"

Year: 2015
Genre: Piano Ambient, Neoclassical
Country: Russia

Track List:
  1. intro
  2. fragment first
  3. I fission
  4. lioss
  5. messerti
  6. fragment last
DOWNLOAD

This project is frequently being posted in our VK group and on gnwp.ru, so I became interested in it even if it's very far from metal or punk. If I'm not mistaken, kageraw is an one-woman project by a member  of Axidance, Repression Attack, The Toverheks and at least a guest musician in warona. Given that she was/is in such bands, I expected her music to be great and wasn't disappointed. Ofc it isn't agressive at all, just beautiful piano ambient stuff, mostly instrumental but with some spoken word vocals here and there.

It also should be mentioned that kageraw is much more than just a music project - she's also a prolific artist and a photographer. Her earlier releases came with a big art book, which I can't find anywere right now (all the links are dead) but there are some examples of cover art I could find:

There's much more art and photography (including lots of nature photography) on her facebook and flickr pages. All her art is very beautiful and I'd just post everything on here if I could, but there are too many pics... Check out her bandcamp page too.

AnArcHISt - "Холода" (2005)

ANARCHIST "Холода"

Year: 2005 (?)
Genre: Gothic Rock, Occult Rock
Country: unknown (Russia/USA?)

Track List:
DOWNLOAD

Look what I've found in my music archive! First I heard this album around 2007, when I became interested in the music which later would be called "RABM", and I don't remember the exact circumstances of how I found out about it. I only know it was recorded by someone under the name "A.Alper" (yes, it's an one-man band, and I'm not sure if it's his real name), who started from standard anarcho-communism but later became interested in ontological anarchism of Hakim Bey. Other than that, nearly everything about this album is uncertain, including the release date. The vocalist sings in Russian with a noticeable accent, but that's all I can say. Everything points to him being Russian/Jewish who's living/has lived in the United States for a long time, but again, I can't be sure about that.

I coudn't find a cover image for the album, and I even doubt it was even physically released. The music is melodic depressive rock, nowhere near metal but still very good. All the lyrics are in Russian, and they're very well written. The only thing that somewhat puts me off are the vocals, especially in the last track, but that's not a major flaw for me. As a whole it's a very strange album, especially considering the lack of information about it, but nevertheless it was enjoyable for me.

Mädäntyneen Jumalan Silmä - "Musta Myrsky" (2015)

MJS "Musta Myrsky"

Year: 2015
Genre: Black Metal
Country: Finland

  4. Paha omena

(download link taken down due to request. contact the band at the e-mail address listed below for more information)
Release notes:

"Mädäntyneen jumalan silmä(Rotten God’s Eye) is a black metal band formed in 2015 by Haaska, Ikävä, Rääkki and Tulehdus.
First album Musta myrsky (The Black Storm) was published in December 2015.
We are creating new material and are working towards our next album.
We are also looking for a publisher for the Americas and for Europe.

At the core of MJS's music are feelings of sorrow, hatred and fear.
Humans are animals who are alienated from themselves and from their surroundings.
We are lost and in our frightened wrenching we turn the world black.
We watch forests burn and water turn to poison.
We hurt each other and we hope for the worst.
There are no gods to forgive us.
We play black metal and our music stems from the feeling of being alienated from the society created by the capitalist system which forces humankind to turn against each other and destroy the nature around us while waging war on every scale.

Metallic crust/hardcore/punk/BM demos - a brief roundup, part 3

Continuing the tradition of giving the all the not-quite-political and/or not-quite-BM demos at least a brief mention, here's the 3rd entry of this sort:
  • Chasmbound - at a first look at the cover and the track names, I didn't expect this band to be very metal at all, but it turned out to be an interesting mix of BM, post-metal and hardcore. Probably not for the fans of raw stuff, though;
  • Earthbound - a band with similar name, playing a sort of blackened hardcore as well, but they're from Krakow while Chasmbound are from New York. Not bad, even if they sound just like regular metallic hardcore band for the most part.
  • Ande - one-man (post-)BM project from Belgium, described as "a personal way to honour black metal that was, is and will be". Doesn't seem to be explicitly political, but worth checking out especially for the fans of atmospheric BM.
  • Crescent Days - noisy post-BM/shoegaze from Germany/USA. Not explicitly political as well, although one of two members is socialist. Their album was released by CVLMINIS last autumn, limited to 30 copies.
  • verãopop - ambient/noise/drone from Portugal, featuring a member of Aires. Released by An Out Recordings, a label that you probably already are well familiar with.
  • Uzvrat - a new crust/hardcore project from Croatia, featuring members of Hesperian Dead Horse among other bands. Download.
Hopefully I haven't forgotten anything I wanted to include here. Although I could, because I receive a lot of e-mails, and I tend to ignore these which look too promotional and doesn't have much to do with the topic of my blog. Ofc I try to review everything I receive and find worthy while I have an opportunity.

ROT & Children of the Greyscale Rainbow - split (2015)

ROT / C.O.T.G.R. "split tape"

Year: 2015
Genre: Black Noise / Drone
Country: New Zealand

Track List:
  1. ROT - Sermons of Scatology
  2. Children of the Greyscale Rainbow - Seasons of Sadness
bandcamp

One more split featuring two anarcho-noise projects, this time both are from New Zealand. I received it right after the Contraktor / KS split. ROT side is harsh noise, and C.O.T.G.R. side is described as "depressive anarcho-cynicist drone".

Contraktor & Kolaps systému - "Animal Liberation" (2015)

CONTRAKTOR / KOLAPS SYSTEMU "Animal Liberation"

Year: 2015
Genre: Eco-Terrorist Noise / Power Electronics
Country: USA / Slovakia

Track List:
  1. CONTRAKTOR - Self-Worthless (The Animals Will Rise)
  2. KOLAPS SYSTEMU - Breaking The Locks
DOWNLOAD

A new split with a self-explanatory title featuring Contraktor and Kolaps systému. The KS side is a bit weak comparing to Contraktor one, which is harsher and less monotonous. But KS also released a new full-length album constisting of one long noise track, dealing with the usual themes of anti-civilization, human extinction, destruction and hatred constantly produced by humanity. Get it HERE, if you're interested.

Vlaknasta - "Sondaža materničnih žalosti" (2015)

VLAKNASTA "Sondaža materničnih žalosti (A sondage of cervical sorrows)"

Year: 2015
Genre: Black Noise
Country: Slovenia

Track List:
  1. Paradigma skrbi
  2. O sanjah in ploskosti
bandcamp

A new tape released by Slovenia-based Štrigon Records (see also Human Host Body). Vlaknasta is described as "a black metal/atonal improv-compositional project, a meeting of black metal intensities, sound forms and expressive tropes with atonal improvisation, free-noise drumming, experimental composition and a parellel process of text generation, an attempt to write through different perceptions of female pain, occult currents of experience, both a breaking through and a being-part-of hearing that which is". Surely it's stuff not for everyone's liking, but those who do like noisy BM shouldn't be disappointed.

Late Night Venture - "Tychonians" (2015)

LATE NIGHT VENTURE "Tychonians"

Year: 2015
Genre: Post-Metal
Country: Denmark

Track List:
  1. Stjerneborg
  2. Nebula
  3. Moon shone on white rock
  4. Halo orbit
  5. Revenge Motif
  6. Praha
download promo / bandcamp / soundcloud

For a start, here's a new album from a band that's not expliticly political and is relatively far from black metal, but they're my readers and their producer has worked with such Danish acts as Solbrud and Halshug. Very good post-metal, or psych/doom how the band members themselves call it:

2016

Hello everyone, and sorry for not updating the blog during the first week of the new year. I've received lots of new music, but I already have explained why I lack the motivation for doing anything on here, and my co-editors have various problems too (including problems with law enforcement).

I'll try to give at least a brief review to these demos in the next few days. And right now let's remember all the good musicians and other DIY scene folks that passed away in 2015, because there were far too many of them...
